“The Window of Tolerance” is a term developed by Dr. Dan Siegel. It describes the normal ups and downs of our emotions, especially when we face adversity. We use the “balance” of being between the sympathetic (arousal) and parasympathetic (calm) states to stay within the Window of Tolerance.

When we go outside the Window, we can become hyperaroused (anxiety, fear, hypervigilance) or hypo aroused (depressed, chronic fatigue, disconnection, feeling dead).
