The multi-disciplinary team (MDT) works closely together in offering group sessions based on the skills training component of the Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) model. As DBT is a skill-based therapy it is easy and practical, and the results are rapidly visible.
We take special care to ensure patients quickly and effectively stabilised after admission. We believe patients should be contained and feel safe. Therefor our focus in the groups is on making everyone feel as comfortable and calm as possible.
The therapists working in the unit have redefined their group therapy presentations to offer the best individual and culturally tailored learning and healing experience.
All the group sessions are interrelated and come together in a comprehensive adaptive outcome. Most newly admitted patients are severely depressed and may not always be feeling well or up to attending a group session. As such, the groups are presented in a way that encourages safe and contained participation.
The team has a weekly ward round to discuss and reflect on the progress and limitations of the group sessions attended in past week.
