DR MELANE VAN ZYL
Dr Melane van Zyl obtained an MB ChB degree (UFS) in 1998 and holds a MMED (psych) (US) and a fellowship of the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (FRCP). She enjoys all aspects of general psychiatry and has a special interest in trauma related disorders and Borderline Personality Disorder. She includes modalities that uses the body in the healing process such as yoga, qigong, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and mindfulness meditation. She also has an interest in Jungian Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and sees patients for long term analysis.
DR NYEMBWE KAZADI
Dr NJB Kazadi, (Nyembwe Jean-Bosco), M.D. is a qualified specialist psychiatrist. He qualified as a medical doctor at the University of Kinshasa (1987), He has a Master degree in Neuropsychiatry (University of Kinshasa 1993) and a Master degree in Psychiatry ( University of The Witswatersand 2007).He has extensive experience in the management of mood, anxiety and psychotic disorders. He has a special interest in the management of substance use disorders.

PROF HAYLEY WALKER WILLIAMS
Prof Hayley Walker- Williams has been a practicing clinical psychologist since 2000. She obtained her PhD in psychology in 2012, focussing on posttraumatic growth in women survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Her expertise includes trauma (specifically childhood sexual abuse) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, personality disorders, depression, anxiety, grief, and relationship issues. She is currently in private practice and serves full-time as the deputy director of the School of Psychosocial Health at the North-West University, Vanderbijlpark Campus. Prof Walker-Williams has written several peer-reviewed journal articles and has presented her work both nationally and internationally.
DR ELSABE BOTHA
Dr Elsabe Botha holds a pre-graduate B Prim Ed (University of Pretoria) with Psychology as a major. She then spent five years teaching and during the latter part, completed an Honours degree in Psychology. She then had the opportunity to pursue her passion which was a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology (NWU Potchefstroom). After many years in private practice she completed her PhD (NWU Potchefstroom) in Positive Psychology and its correlation with biological markers in women. She renders the following services: individual therapy with young adults, adults, and the elderly. She specializes in a wide spectrum of psychiatric illnesses and particularly enjoys couples therapy and group work.

MRS MARIET SCHRIEK
Mrs Mariet Schriek is a clinical psychologist. She has been in private practice for decades, with vast experience in most aspects of psychological distress. Her main interests are anxiety, depression and trauma in older teenagers and adults.
MRS NADENE HARISUNKER
Mrs Nadene Harisunker is a clinical psychologist. Her areas of interest are severe trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, personality disorders, teenagers, parent-child therapy, parenting skills, severe mental illness (such as depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia) and neuropsychology.

Reotshepile Seele obtained her master’s degree in clinical psychology from the University of Pretoria, she engages in a holistic therapeutic approach to assessing and intervening mental health challenges. She has a special interest in the following:

MRS SHAHEDA KHOTA
Mrs Shaheda Khota has been a practising clinical Psychologist since 2015. She completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Johannesburg, her Honours degree at Unisa and her Master’s degree in Psychology at the University of Pretoria. Her interests are in providing assessments and individual or play therapy to children and adolescents with emotional and behavioural difficulties. She is currently in private practice and serves as a lecturer in the psychology department of the North-West University, Vanderbijlpark Campus. She is also a founding member of the British Brain Working Research Society (BWRT).
MRS TIISETSO NKOMO
Mrs Tiitetso Nkomo is a clinical psychologist with the degrees BA (Psych. Hons) M Sc (Clin Psych) NWU and she has been working for seven years. She offers individual, couples and family therapy. She has expertise in helping young people and adults to deal with a range of emotional, behavioural and adjustment problems such as anxiety, stress, depression as well as relationship and substance abuse problems. She also offers services to treat other problems not listed here. She has the ability to work with people from different backgrounds and like to help people help themselves.
MR CARL DU PLESSIS
Carl du Plessis is a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF). Carl completed his undergraduate and honours studies at the University of the Witwatersrand. He then went on to complete his masters degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Pretoria.
Carl assists adults, adolescents, pre-teens and children, as well as couples and families with various psychological, behavioural and emotional challenges.
Carl believes in a two-person therapy. This means that he recognizes that both therapist and the client contribute to the therapeutic process. Carl predominantly works from the framework of schema therapy. Schema therapy is an integrative method that is evidence-based. Carl is trained in various psychotherapeutic frameworks and believes that psychotherapy should be adapted to the needs of the individual.

MRS ILSE SMIT
Ilse Smit obtained a M.Soc Sc (Counselling Psychology) in 2003 at the University of the Free State. She has 17 years of experience as a counselling psychologist. She has also been working at a school for mildly mentally challenged learners for the past 13 years. Initially she was trained mainly in Cognitive Behaviour therapy but has become a devoted Solution Focused Therapist since her training in 2006 in Solution Focused Therapy. She has a broad range of interests and enjoys working in various settings with children, teens, couples as well as patients with trauma. Ilse also offers couples therapy, Gr 9 subject choice and Gr 11 career counselling.

MRS PATRICIA O'HARE
Mrs Patricia O’Hare is a counselling psychologist and Kundalini yoga teacher. She sees herself as semi-retired, but we are privileged to have her and her wisdom available to us.
Patricia can be found on the golf course or on a yoga mat, and if you want to know her secrets for longevity you will probably have to meet her here.
MRS CHRISTI ENGELBRECHT
Mrs Christi Engelbrecht obtained her B Occupational Therapy degree (UFS) in 1998. She worked full time at various schools for learners with special needs and part time in private practice. She has a special interest in adolescents and mental health in the workplace. Her focus is on enabling individuals to re-engage in meaningful activities through a variety of skill sets such as skills development, and establishing positive habits and routines. She also does vocational and functional assessments to support persons with a psychiatric illness for returning to work.
MRS INE TERBLANCHE AND MRS JEANI OOSTHUIZEN
Mrs Ine Terblanche and Mrs Jeani Oosthuizen are the physiotherapists affiliated to our ward. They offer a wide variety of services including treating musculoskeletal, respiratory, and neurological conditions, as well as treating pain and discomfort related to injuries on the sport field or at home.
We commend Ine and Jeani for their unconditional and seamless integration with the mental health professionals. Their input to our ward adds energy and playfulness that the patients thoroughly enjoy.
MRS ANNETTE VOLSCHENK
Mrs Annette Volschenk is a social worker with many years of experience in the SAPS. Like Patricia above, she also sees herself as semi- retired. However, her vast experience in fields such as addiction makes us hold on tightly to her services.
If you have ever worked or have been treated in a psychiatric clinic, you will know that this type of unit requires a special nurse. Our nursing team is led by Sr Louisa Nosilela since 2017.
Matron Karen Janse van Vuuren has been keeping all of us in Section A (as well as the rest of the hospital) under strict effective control since July 2015- like an excellent matron should! Mrs Razina Kader is our newly appointed hospital manager.
Lastly a special word of mention to our previous hospital manager Mrs Nellie Koen, and to Mrs Cora Muller, the hospital manager who founded our unit in 2012.
